Your target customer needs to know that your business exists and what you are selling. There are many different ways you can promote your business. Here are an initial few to get you started. We'll expand on these in more detail in future blogs.

brochures, leaflets and catalogues - a brochure or flyer can give your customers detailed information about your business as well as your products and services. You can provide brochures and leaflets to your customers through sales visits, by displaying them at your business, or getting other businesses to display them for you. A brochure or leaflet is a practical way to let people know about your business but watch out for production and printing costs.

print advertisements - you can place ads in local newspapers, business directories or specialist media. Advertisements should be both clear and interesting which highlight the benefits of your product or service, and provide a strong call to action to get customers to pick up the phone and contact you.

direct mail – direct mail involves mailing out a brochure, catalogue, postcard or flyer to your customers. You can rent lists of names and addresses from a list brokerage service, or for less cost, you can pinpoint business customers through the local Yellow Pages. Your business will need to comply with strict regulations with this type of direct marketing. If your customers are the general public, you could also consider using Australia Post's unaddressed mail service.

internet – you can set up a website to promote your business and send information to customers by email. Depending on the setup of your website, you could take payment via your website too (Paypal enables an easy way of initially doing this).
