Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payment initiative
The Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payment initiative replaced the Support for Mid Career Apprentices program from 1 January 2010.
Follow up:
Under this initiative, the Australian Government will provide financial support for Australian Apprentices aged 25 years or over (previously 30) who commence an Australian Apprenticeship at Certificate III or IV level, in an eligible trade occupation experiencing a skills shortage (see trades listed on the National Skills Needs List).
The payment is made to either the employer or the apprentice (depending on wage levels paid) and will be set at $150 per week ($7,800 per annum) in the first year and $100 per week ($5,200 per annum) in the second year for full-time employees. Part-time and School-based Australian Apprentices payments are set at $75 per week in the first two years and $50 per week for the subsequent two years. Payment schedules are adjusted if the employment status changes.
Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payments are treated as assessable income. It is the responsibility of the recipient to receive their own taxation advice. To work out exactly how it could affect your tax, you can talk to the Tax Office on 13 28 61, or speak to an accountant or a registered tax agent.
